“depa” Takes Action After “MDES” Gives Green Light to Launch Online Community “JOBD2U by ThaiFightCOVID-19” Platform
to Help Job Seekers Find Jobs, Boost Income, Mitigate Impact of COVID-19
May 13, 2020 – Bangkok – The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) took an auspicious occasion on the International Labor Day to assign the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) to launch a Facebook public group called “JOBD2U by ThaiFightCOVID-19” to serve as an online jobs searching platform. It aims to assist those who were unemployed and jobless people due to the fallout from the COVID-19 as well as business operators who are finding workforces in various career fields. It hopes that the initiative will help alleviate the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Buddhipongse Punnakanta, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), said that the coronavirus pandemic has led to the global economic slowdown as several businesses have grinded to a halt and certain businesses were brought to a standstill and shuttered by the COVID-19. The pandemic has resulted in many workers across industries becoming unemployed and losing their jobs without advance preparation. Such situations happened in many countries that were dealing with the virus outbreak and Thailand is no exception.
Hence, the MDES, as the key government agency to push for the implementation of digital technology and innovation to steer Thailand towards the 4.0 era, recognized the emerging problem and instructed the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) to gear up finding solutions to assist people who are unemployed and jobless as a result of the impact of the coronavirus outbreak as well as entrepreneurs that are in search of workers to drive their business development.
Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO of depa, said the depa has always been spontaneous to take action and to come up with assistance and relief measures in multiple dimensions, especially in terms of the support measures to empower human resources and enhance the potential of workers in the field of digital technology and innovation through the “depa Digital Manpower Fund”. The objective is to develop human resources through new learning and development via upskilling and reskilling to complement the digital, technological innovation. The skills development will be conducted through online learning platforms as it hopes to enhance a turnaround in professions to enable people to find a new career path as well as helping revive the Thai economy after being battered by the spread of the coronavirus.
“depa recently launched a Facebook group account named “JOBD2U by ThaiFightCOVID-19” to serve as an online community, providing matching opportunities for employers and entrepreneurs to meet job seekers and right workers. JOBD2U by ThaiFightCOVID-19 will be a medium to provide people with career opportunities where people can search for their favorite jobs or professions that match their qualifications, expertise and experience. It is also serving as a platform for those looking for new jobs in order to become self-employed as well as those in search of learning and skills development courses so as to increase career opportunities. It is also where business operators, entrepreneurs and digital startups can recruit new workforces to strengthen teamwork in organizations by posting job advertisements. There is a wide range of jobs across industries and segments to choose from, including career opportunities in the IT and non-IT industries. The Facebook group also features a wide variety of online learning courses for interested people to reskill and upskill so that they can use those knowledge and skills for the success of their career path or a greater employment opportunity after the end of the COVID-19 crisis. The depa stands ready to support and promote all dimensions of development related to digitization so that Thai people can overcome the crisis together,” said the president/CEO of depa.
Dr. Nuttapon added that the Minister of Digital Economy and Society will then hold talks with large corporations to discuss assistance measures for Thai people by creating jobs along with providing skills development through online learning courses to empower people’s career growth in preparation for any incident after the COVID-19 crisis.
